The video is the fabulous outburst delivered by Lorre before the scoundrels leave the scene at the end of The Maltese Falcon. Note that horrible voiceover, “It’s a fake!” that starts the scene. Perhaps some scholarly reader knows why that was necessary?

Well, it might not sound like Sydney G. — but it is.
I hope you get a chance to see the entire film some day. If you enjoyed Peter’s outburst in this scene, you’ll love his other scenes in the movie.
An authorized biography on Peter is available, too — The Lost One: A Life of Peter Lorre, by Stephen D. Youngkin (University Press of Kentucky, 2005). There’s a section on the making of The Maltese Falcon, Peter’s years at Warner Bros., his friendship with Bogart. Check out the book’s official website — http://www.PeterLorreBook.com.
They’re talking about the falcon statuette being made of lead, instead of the gold and jewel-covered figure they were expecting.
Have you seen any other Peter Lorre movies?
But why the crummy voice-over? It’s not Greenstreet’s voice!
I have seen several Lorre films recently: M; Stranger on the Third Floor; Island of Doomed Men – some are in posts here.
Thanks for stopping by!
