Obama Seeks to Win Back Wall St. Cash

The post’s title is the headline of a NYTimes article today.  In case you are wondering why the reign of the Bankers and Rentiers seems so secure.  The President and the Congress seem as one on this point.  No change you can believe in.

Alas, poor suckling public servants, sometimes there are more pigs than teats!

Well lord knows they owe him.

He’s just slapping on a little extra vigorish.

  2. Obama wants to do the right thing but he has to have Wall Street cash to get reelected so he can continue to serve the people. As I see it it is simple economics. You have to get the cash from somewhere to get reelected. I have no problem at all with Obama hoodwinking the “fat cats on Wall Street” as he called them. If they want to give up their money, Let them. It’s not hyprocracy it’s pragmatism in the first degree. Sometimes the ends do justify the means. Especially when theends including reforming Wall Street corruption.

    • Lichanos says:

Yes, yes, yes…but the ends are rather paltry. No real reform in the offing. Not hypocrisy, true. That’s our system. One party, the party of Money.

I never had high hopes for Obama, but I am surprised at how totally he neglects even thinking about how to develop other power centers from which to challenge Wall Street. He could have ridden the vast wave of inchoate discontent that, instead, went to fuel the ravings of the Tea Party, et. al.

I wonder if the ends ever justify the means. The thing people ignore is that the means invariably influence the nature of the ends.

” continue to serve the people” is sadly servile but your response, Lichanos, also reveals a disconnect. “Other power centers”? Like Labour? Ethnic/ racial/ sexual minorities? That pre-supposes a politics that simply doesn’t exist ( or more accurately is captured) in a democracy that doesn’t exist. In the sense of power which you are describing the military is the only counter-vailing force and they are in bed with the whole neoliberal project.
